Doris Janet Van Gennep, 87, of Kellogg, IA passed away April 9, 2023 at Brooklyn Estates.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, April 13, 2023 at Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell, IA. Visitation will be held at 10:00 am, one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell, followed by a luncheon at Smith Funeral Home.

Memorials may be designated to the Doris Van Gennep Memorial Fund, and mailed in c/o of Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, IA 50112.

Doris was born on June 2, 1935 in rural Poweshiek County to John A. and Pheobe (Wilson) Rupp. She had two siblings John, and LaRita. Doris attended the Searsboro school.

In November of 1956, Doris was united in marriage to Lyle Neleman at the Kellogg Lutheran Church. To this union the couple had three children, James, Michael and Kathy. Lyle passed away in March of 1984. On September 4, 1993 Doris married Ronald Van Gennep at the Hickory Grove Church in Kellogg.

Doris spent time working at Midwest manufacturing, Kellogg Hardware, Jay's Café, Maytag and spent 12 years at F&M Bank. Ron and Doris enjoyed canning, gardening, camping, fishing and traveling. They were fond of their trips to Alaska, Washington DC and Colorado. Doris loved spending time with her grandchildren.

She is survived by her husband, Ron; her children, James (Jill) Neleman, Michael (Lori) Neleman, Kathy (Randy) Deppe; her grandchildren, Todd (Katie) Neleman, Hillary (Josh) Foster, Jenny (Brad) Wilson, Chad (Emmy) Neleman, Melissa Neleman, and Clayton (Elaine) Deppe; and her 12 great-grandchildren.

She is predeceased by her parents; her late husband, Lyle Neleman; and her siblings, John Rupp and LaRita Gauley.
