Obituary

Doris Good, 94, of Grinnell, died on Saturday, January 18, 2014, at Grinnell Health Care Center. A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m., Thursday, January 23, 2014, at the First Friends Church in Grinnell with Rev. Todd Follette, pastor of the church, officiating. Pianist will be Kathy Vander Ploeg. Casket Bearers will be John E. Good, David Good, Joshua Good, John T. Good and Isaac Good. A graveside will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, at the Friends Cemetery in Richland, IA. Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell beginning 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday and the family will be present at the funeral home from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Doris was born on May 8, 1919, in Kemah, Texas to Walter and Emma Gordy Lawrence. She was raised on a truck farm near Kemah and later graduated from Dickinson High School in Dickinson, Texas. She also attended a Bible College in Haviland, Kansas. On August 21, 1952, she was united in marriage to Thomas A. Good Jr in Baycliff, Texas. She was a homemaker and mother of three children. Doris and Tom lived in Richland, Clemons and Greenville before moving to Grinnell in 1971. Doris was a member of the First Friends Church in Grinnell and the Friends U.S.F.W. She enjoyed teaching Sunday school, serving on various church committees and ministering to the elderly. She was a member of the Church Women United and was active in her church prayer chain. She enjoyed sewing, gardening and raising flowers. She wrote special occasion cards and she considered these cards as a ministry to family and friends. Survivors include her children, Emma Lou (Everett) Krumm of Wichita, Kansas, John (Margaret) Good of Eldora, Iowa and David Good of Grinnell; three grandchildren, Isaac Good, John T. Good and Joshua Good; one sister, Esther Stutzman of Texas; one brother, Walter "Bud" Lawrence of Kansas; and one daughter-in-law, Jaydine Good of Grinnell She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and one infant son, Richard; one sister, Vivian Miller; and one brother, Gordy Lawrence.
