Madonna "Donna" June Roberts Smith was born on September 28, 1938, in rural Monroe County, Iowa, she was the cherished daughter of Clifford Cleophus Roberts and Melissa Mae (McMullin) Roberts. In 1950, her family moved to Brooklyn, Iowa, where she made lifelong memories and friendships.

A proud graduate of Brooklyn High School, Class of 1956, Donna married the love of her life, Dale Smith, on October 6 of that same year at the Brooklyn First Presbyterian Church. Together, they built a life filled with love, laughter, and dedication, raising three beloved children: Kevin, Kathleen, and Diane.

Donna worked tirelessly on the family farm, milking cows and tending to the land. She also contributed to her community in various roles—first at Brooklyn Creamery, later as an insurance agent at Brannian-Neimann Insurance, and finally as an accounts receivable clerk at Manatts in Brooklyn. Even into her 80s, she remained active, cleaning both the Brooklyn First Presbyterian Church and the Brooklyn Public Library.

Her roots stayed firmly planted in Brooklyn until 2020, when she moved to Brown Deer Place in Coralville. But, in early 2025, her heart led her back home, where she resided at Brooklyn Community Estates.

Donna was happiest when surrounded by family, cooking, tending to her home and flowers, and enjoying time with her dear friends, the "Girls Night Out" group—Martina, Marsha, and Mary Ellen. Above all, she embodied love, kindness, and dedication, ensuring that her family and friends felt her love and care always.

Her love will forever be wrapped around those she left behind, guiding them with the same strength and compassion she carried throughout her life. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered.

Donna is survived by her daughter, Diane (Todd) VanErsvelde of North Liberty, IA; her grandchildren, Craig (Cassie) Smith, Luke Smith, Krystal (Mike) Garman, Courtney (Byran) Hershberger, and Nicole (Kahler) Green; her great-grandchildren, Quincie Smith, Boston Smith, Landyn Smith, Ensley Smith, Kora Madonna Garman, Cameron Garman, Gentry Smith, Paisley Hershberger, Blakely Green, and great-grandchild #10 due in August 2025; her brother, Jim (Jeanne) Roberts of El Mirage, AZ; and her niece, Jennifer (Chris) Despain of Phoenix, AZ and their sons. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughter, Kathleen; son, Kevin; and her sister, Mary Lou.
