Donald Ellis Weedon, 72 of Grinnell died on Tuesday, May 2, 2017, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center. Burial will be held at a later date in California. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Donald E. Weedon Memorial Fund and mailed in care of the Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112. Don was born April 24, 1945, in Fullerton, California, the son of Ellis Rodney and Velma Anna "Dolly" Lehman Weedon. He lived in several communities in California, through his childhood and early adult life. He had lived with his sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Ralph Brown for the past 20 years. He enjoyed helping Ralph with various projects and watching Gaither Vocal Band videos. He was a fan of the Brooklyn/Los Angeles Dodgers since he was a young boy. Don held strong faith in Jesus Christ. He enjoyed reading and studying the Bible. He was a prayer warrior that devoted himself to prayer for hours, every day. He was the epitome of what Jesus spoke, to his disciples, in Luke 9:23. "If anyone wishes to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me." KJV One of Don's favorite verses was 1 Peter 5:7. "Casting all your care upon him; for He careth for you." His favorite books in the Bible were Paul's letters, because he said, "they teach you how to live." He was kind-hearted and cared a lot for others. Don was extremely grateful for everything people did for him, and he would always tell you how thankful he was. For years, he enjoyed sending hundreds of cards to friends and family members. Those friends and family members will miss those cards, greatly. He is survived by his sister, Betty (Ralph) Brown of Grinnell and by his niece and nephews; and several great-nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ellis and Dolly Weedon.
