Donald F. Kirts, 99, of Grinnell and formerly of Des Moines, died May 7, 2015, at his home at the Mayflower Community. A graveside service and burial has been scheduled for 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, May 12th at Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery in Des Moines with Rev. John Epperson officiating. Visitation with the family present will be held from 9:30 until 10:30 Tuesday morning at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Mayflower Community. Don was born July 5, 1915, in Cummings, Iowa, the son of George and Bertha Wyckoff Kirts. He was raised in Cummings and was a 1934 graduate of Norwalk High School. He was united in marriage with Julia Belluchi in 1939, in Des Moines, where the couple made their home. Don was employed at Swift and Company for several years and owned and operated Hard Drive Construction. He later sold his business to Des Moines Asphalt & Paving Company. He was a member of the ZA GA ZIG Shriners in Des Moines Survivors include two children, Diane (Vic) Wilson of Grinnell and James (Karen) Kirts of Tucson, Arizona; one brother, Lynn Kirts of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; six grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Julia; and two brothers and four sisters.
