Dolly M. Pearce, age 63, of Grinnell, died on Wednesday, February 5, 2014, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m., Monday, February 10, 2014, at the Grinnell Friends Church with Pastor Todd Follette officiating. Interment will be at Westfield Cemetery near Grinnell. Visitation will be held from 12:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the family present to greet friends from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Memorials may be designated to the Grinnell Friends Church, Westfield Cemetery Association, Special Olympics, or Quakerdale, mailed in care of the Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, IA 50112. Memories and condolences may be shared with her family at www.smithfh.com. Dolly was born on July 8, 1950, in Grinnell, Iowa to Thomas Daryl Eames and Alice Irene (Mayo) Eames. She was raised in Grinnell and graduated from Grinnell High School with the class of 1968. She was united in marriage to Robert Andrew Pearce on July 3, 1969, at the First Baptist Church in Grinnell. The couple was blessed with two sons, William and Benjamin. They operated a dairy farm in Grinnell for over 14 years and she also worked as a cook for the Grinnell School District, the Mayflower Community, Kellogg Café, and the Lynnville Café. She was a member of the Grinnell Dance Club and the Grinnell Friends Church, where she taught Bible school and Sunday school. She also was a substitute school bus driver for Bob at the Newton School District. Dolly's family and her faith were her life. She devoted her life to helping and improving the lives of others. She loved being a farm wife and having the ability to be at home to raise her sons. She was a very devoted Christian who volunteered countless hours at church activities. Her enjoyments included traveling, especially to the Pearce family reunions in California, Colorado and Canada, preparing meals from the hundreds of recipes she had in her library, and going to dances with Bob. Dolly is survived by her husband of 45 years, Robert Pearce of Grinnell; 2 sons, William S. (Elsa) Pearce of Corpus Christi, Texas and Benjamin D. (Amanda) Pearce of Grinnell; 3 grandchildren, David and Isadora Pearce of Corpus Christi, Texas and Tyler Pearce of Grinnell; and 3 sisters, Barbara (Daryl) Callison of Blackfoot, Idaho, Nancy (Wally) Whittenburg of Wyndmere, North Dakota, and Joyce (Al) Schlosser of Omaha, Nebraska. She was preceded in death by her parents.
