Derek G. Reavis, 59, of Grinnell, died on January 26, 2018, at his home. A Celebration of Life service is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 10th, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell. Memorial contributions in Derek's honor may be directed to PALS in Grinnell. Derek was born on April 4, 1958, in Grinnell, the son of Glenn Dee Reavis and Joyce Isabella Carroll. He was raised in Grinnell and attended school in the Grinnell School District. Derek lived in several communities in Iowa, but lived most of his life in Grinnell. He was well known in the Grinnell community and enjoyed his daily routine of visiting several businesses' to say hi! Derek held a passion for both the Grinnell Fire and Police Departments. He enjoyed watching TV and western movies starring John Wayne and Roy Rogers, (with his horse, Trigger). He was a fan of Marvel, D.C. Comics, and NASCAR. His favorite driver was Dale Earnhart. Derek held a strong faith and prayed often. His friends enjoyed his sense of humor. Survivors include numerous relatives and good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, PFC Brett G. Reavis, a combat casualty of the Vietnam War.
