Dennis Lynn Stowe, 72, of Carlisle and formerly of Grinnell died on April 14, 2021, at his home of natural causes.
A Celebration of Life gathering with the Stowe family present has been scheduled from 6:00 to 8:00 Monday evening at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell.
Memorial contributions may be designated to the Carlisle Fire Department.
Dennis was born on February 28, 1949, in Grinnell, the son of Marvin Dale and Gladys Marie Foster Stowe. He was raised in Grinnell and was a 1967 graduate of Grinnell High School. He furthered his education at Grandview College in Des Moines with an interest in technical courses.
He spent his career with the railroad as a dispatcher working for the Rock Island, Northwestern and Union Pacific Railroads. He later was a part-time police officer and EMT with the city of Carlisle and Huxley. For many years, Dennis held a passion for flying as a private pilot.
He was united in marriage to Connie Sue Strom, on April 8, 2021, in Carlisle.
Dennis enjoyed working in his workshop designing and making lamps, birdhouses, and other woodworking projects. He was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs, and Chicago Bears. He volunteered for many years as the Class of 1967 alumni secretary writing class news and assisting with class reunions.
He was a member of the Iowa State Sheriff & Deputies Association and the National Association of Retired & Veteran Railroad.
Dennis is survived by his wife, Connie of Carlisle; two daughters, Jennifer (Denis Currier) Buren of New Sharon and Julie (Nathan) Bird of Des Moines; one granddaughter, Hannah Bird; and his long-time friend, Bruce Selby of Carlisle. He was preceded in death by his parents.
