Dennis Moon, 76, of rural Brooklyn, passed away peacefully on August 13, 2024 at home surrounded by his family.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am, Monday, August 19, 2024 at St. James Lutheran Church in Victor. A luncheon will follow the service at the church. Interment with military honors will be at Rector Cemetery near Chelsea.

The family will receive friends at the visitation held from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm on Sunday, August 18, 2024 at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell.

Dennis was born April 28, 1948 to Melba (Campbell) and Lloyd Moon. He attended Mormon Trail High School in Humeston, Iowa graduating in 1966. After high school, Dennis enlisted in the United States Navy serving three years in the intelligence community primarily stationed on the island of Guam. After being honorably discharged from the Navy in 1973, Dennis was united in marriage to his wife Bonnie (Cronbaugh) on August 3, 1974. The two recently celebrated 50 years of marriage.

Dennis was dedicated to his career in agriculture over the years. He began his career spending 14 years with Farm Service and as a District Sales Manager for Wyffels Hybrids for 15 years. He then branched out on his own, creating a successful seed corn business that he was able to run from his home warehouse and office.

In Dennis' spare time he enjoyed playing pool, cards, bowling, socializing with his many friends and watching Iowa Hawkeyes sports. He was a member of the Brooklyn American Legion, the Elks Lodge in Grinnell, and Farm Bureau. He was known for his quick wit, kind heartedness, skill with numbers and realistic outlook on life.

He is survived by his wife Bonnie, children: Amber (Eric), Andy (Becky) and Alison (Will), grandchildren: Hailey Heishman, Wyatt Heishman, Macey Heishman, Paisley Moon, Brooks Moon, Lane Moon, Jackson Bevan, Laila Bevan, Payton Darr, Ryan Darr and Hadley Darr; several nieces and nephews and brother Ronnie (Betty). Dennis was proceeded in death by his parents Melba and Lloyd, sisters Connie and Diane, nephews Chris and Scott, sister-in-law Crystal VanWaus and in-laws Milton and Bernice Cronbaugh.
