Obituary

Dennis Harris, 82, of Grinnell, IA passed away on Tuesday, June 27, 2023 at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10:00 am on Saturday, July 8, 2023 at Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell.

Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm, on Friday, July 7, 2023 at Smith Funeral Home.

A private family burial will be held at Chester Cemetery.

Dennis was born on June 19, 1941 in Grinnell to Merle and Blanche (Siehl) Harris. He was raised in Grinnell and graduated with the high school class of 1958.

Dennis was united in marriage to Betty Sue Tomek on April 4, 1964 in Harrisonville, Missouri. To this union, the couple had two children, Richele and Brad. Dennis was a lifelong farmer, and they raised their children on the Harris family farm north of Grinnell.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding his Harley Davidson, spending time with friends and family, and attending his grandchildren's activities.

Dennis is survived by his daughter, Richele (Dwayne) Smith of Lee's Summit, Missouri; son, Brad (Lynette) Harris of Grinnell; grandchildren, Miles (Alex) Serig and their son Cooper, Dain (Maddie Wilkins) Harris, Dillyn Harris, Daysi Harris, and Colin Smith; and his niece, Cindy (Tim) Carnovale. He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife Betty; and his brothers, Dale Harris and Dean Harris.
