Debra Kay (Harris) Arment, 67, of Grinnell, died at her home on Monday, April 20, 2026 of natural causes.
The family will receive friends and family at a visitation held from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell.
A funeral service will be held 10:30 am, Thursday, April 30, 2026 at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. Interment will follow at Chester Cemetery north of Grinnell. A luncheon will follow at the Eagles in Grinnell.
Memorial checks should be made payable to Chester Cemetery Association and mailed in care of the Smith Funeral Home and Crematory, PO Box 368, Grinnell, IA 50112. Memories and condolences may be shared with Deb's family online at www.smithfh.com.
Debra Kay Harris was born on July 29, 1958, in Grinnell, Iowa to Henry and Shirley (VanderLeest) Harris. She was raised on the family farm north of Grinnell in Chester Township and graduated from Grinnell High School with the Class of 1976. She belonged to Chester Church and played piano for church while in high school. She was involved in 4-H and was a member of Sonora Grange while growing up.
Deb was united in marriage to Tom Arment in 1977. Their marriage was blessed with three children, Justin, Corey, and Amber.
Throughout high school and her early years of marriage, Deb worked at Jerry's Coffee Shop, Heishman and Brauer True Value, Grinnell Mutual, in-home daycare, Food-4-Less, Gentelco Credit Union.
Deb was a driving force for Kelcy's in Grinnell for 20 years. She served many roles and was the catalyst of day-to-day operations. Including preparing food from scratch daily, serving customers, working in the kitchen during lunch hour, and returning in the evening to assist in the bar and dining areas.
After the closing of Kelcy's, Deb enjoyed catering for Grinnell College dining services. Also, later cooking for the Mayflower Community in Grinnell. She loved being around people and found joy in helping others. As a mother, Deb worked hard to provide for her three children and cared deeply for her family. She will be remembered for her kind and caring nature.
Deb enjoyed being outside soaking up the sun, planting a garden, and doing puzzles.
Deb is survived by her sons, Justin (Shannon) Arment of Brooklyn, IA and Corey (LaRae) Arment of Toddville, IA; her daughter, Amber (Brian) Lewis of Grinnell; her seven grandchildren, Kylie and Cara Arment, Landri and Calen Arment, and Payton, Karter, and Travis Lewis; and her siblings, Vickie (Mark) Rutherford of Grinnell, Kim (Tom) Patten of Grinnell, and Mike (Misty)
Harris, of Grinnell; and her nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; and her nephew, Blake Morrison.
