David was born on January 4, 1957, in Grinnell, Iowa, the son of Donald Jack Turner and Mildred Maxine Turner. He came home with his adoptive parents at the age of 2 weeks. He was raised in the Grinnell area where he was a graduate of Grinnell High School. David attended Special Ed at Davis School for 8 years, then for 4 years at Pleasant Hill in Marshalltown, Iowa. He worked at Mid Iowa Workshop for the handicap for many years, where he took a bus with several other boys and girls. David was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church, where he would go over the years and make coffee, help in the baby nursery on Sunday mornings and with his mother on Wednesday nights for Awana parents children. David loved going to Hy-Vee for coffee and to visit with the farmers. He was everybody's hero and a friend to everyone. David had a strong belief that everyone was a good person. He loved kids, loved to play horse shoes. David and his special friend Derek Reavis were known as part of the fabric of Grinnell. David attended Special Camp at Iowa Regular Baptist Camp in Clear Lake, Iowa for more than 30 years. He also played basketball and bowling in the Special Olympics. David played on a bowling league for many years. He is survived by his brother, Calvin (Diana) Turner of New Hampton, Iowa, and his sister, Kim (Matt Steddom) Turner of Marshalltown, Iowa, and several cousins. He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents; and a very special friend Derek Reavis.
