Obituary

David B. Stanley, 63, of Cedar Rapids and formally of Victor, passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2016, at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa A memorial gathering in celebration of his life will be held from 1:00 p.m. until 2:30 p.m., Saturday, January 23, 2016, at the Smith Funeral Home in Victor. Inurnment will be at a later date. Memorials may be directed to the David Stanley Memorial Fund and sent in care to the Smith Funeral Home, P.O. Box 485, Victor, Iowa 52347. David was born on January 7, 1953, to Roy and Cynthia Trout Stanley in Williamson, West Virginia. He grew up in Belfry, Kentucky and graduated from Belfry High School with the class of 1971. After graduation, he moved to Madison Heights, Michigan, where he began playing in a band. He was united in marriage to Rose Piere in June of 1973, and the couple moved to Iowa, where they lived in several communities in Iowa County. He was employed by Centro Incorporated in Oxford, Iowa for several years and also worked at Victor Plastics in Victor for ten years before retiring from Amana Refrigeration. David enjoyed spending time with his family. He was an avid fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes and Chicago Cubs. He enjoyed working on cars and houses, photography and loved outdoor recreation activities. David is survived his mother, Cynthia Trout of Madison Heights, Michigan; two sons, David (Heather) Stanley Jr. of Coggon, Iowa and Roy Stanley of Brooklyn; one daughter, Leslie Stanley of Brooklyn; four brothers, Glen Stanley of Hardy, Kentucky, William (Bea) Stanley of Clinton Township, Michigan, Johnny Stanley of Warren, Michigan, Jeffery Stanley of Madison Heights, Michigan; one sister, Lydia Nesbitt of Kenockee Township, Michigan; thirteen grandchildren; his long-time girlfriend, Glenda Hadsell of Cedar Rapids and her children, Tessa Hadsell (fiancé Joey Fisher) of Cedar Rapids; Stacy (Allen) Straka of Victor and Jason (Beth) Hadsell of Guernsey, Iowa. David was preceded in death by his father.
