David L. Meldrem, 55, of Hiawatha went to be in the presence of his Lord on April 30, 2009, from complications of multiple strokes at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.
A funeral service has been scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 5, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Pastor Brian Fink of the River of Life Church in Cedar Rapids officiating. Pallbearers will be Brad Collum, Jason Goad, TJ Blain, Matt Guy, Joe Amason, Mike Geurts, Terry Mullen, and Vaughn VerSteegh. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell. A memorial service will also be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, May 9, at River of Life Church in Cedar Rapids.

Dave was born on March 30, 1954, to Max and Rosetta Meldrem of Grinnell. He attended school at Grinnell-Newburg and Lynnville-Sully Schools. He was married on April 15, 1978, to Becky Gilkey.
Dave is survived by his wife, Becky of 31 years; two daughters and their families, Layna (Brad) Collum, Quintin and Shealynn of Nevada, Iowa; Jenny (Jason) Goad, Keegan and Raymond of Vinton, Iowa; his parents, Max and Rosetta Meldrem of Grinnell; one sister, Vicki (Jerry) Blain and their children, Summer (Matt) Guy and TJ (Amie) Blain; and one brother, Brady (Julie) Meldrem and their children, Codie and Cassadie; and two great-nephews and one great-niece.
Dave was a devoted son, brother, husband and father. He was a faithful friend and a devoted believer. He was full of wit and humor, sometimes very ornery and a joy to be around. He was an inspiration to all who knew him. He will be greatly missed!
