David was born on July 16, 1966 in Grinnell. He was raised in Grinnell and graduated from Grinnell High School with the Class of 1984. He had a tool in his hand from an early age, whether taking apart and rebuilding his bicycle as a child or later constructing projects around his home, including the back deck where he enjoyed spending many peaceful hours. He was always working on a new project and took great pride in his craftsmanship.
David's life was defined by hard work, motorcycles, and the love of his family. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Much of his free time was spent in the shop, and he especially loved riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. Among his favorite memories were traveling and riding through the mountains of Colorado.
David will be remembered as a loving, caring, and gentle soul whose kindness and generosity touched many lives.
He is survived by his wife of 18 years, Renee McDaniel; his son, Adam McDaniel and girlfriend Shelby Braniger; his daughter, Samantha Dean and husband Grant; step-daughter, Gale Nordyke; step-sons, David Nordyke III, and Jacob Nordyke and wife Betty Nordyke; adopted son, Jacob McDaniel; adopted daughters, Arianna McDaniel and Gracie McDaniel; grandchildren, Christopher McDaniel, Gabe McDaniel, Elizabeth McDaniel, Maddalee Dean, and Tayden Dean; step-grandson, Larry Nordyke; brothers, Terry McDaniel and Jeff McDaniel; and his aunt, Charlotte Seegers.
