David E. Coons, age 85, of Grinnell, died Thursday, March 29, 2006, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell. A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday, April 7, 2006, at White Chapel Memorial Gardens in Gladstone, Missouri with Rev. Mel Lantz officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials be directed to St. Francis Manor. David was born on January 27, 1921, the son of Clayborne and Susan (Rayenscraft) Coons in North Kansas City, Missouri. He was raised in Kansas City and graduated from high school there. On May 6, 1943, he was united in marriage to Betty 'Peg' Peterson in Kansas City. To this union, two sons were born: Frederick and David. David was a pharmaceutical sales representative for the American Hospital Supply Company in Kansas City. David is survived by his sons David (Francene) Coons of Grinnell and Fred (Martha) Coons of Grinnell; four grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. David was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Betty on January 28, 2006; his sister Irene Shupp; and his brother Harold Coons.
