Dale Roscoe Selix Jr., 85, of Grinnell, IA passed away on March 6, 2025, at St. Francis Manor.
A funeral service will be held at 10:30 am on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Grinnell. A graveside service will be held at Hazelwood cemetery immediately following the service. After the graveside service a luncheon will be held back at St. John's Lutheran Church.
Visitation will be held from 4:00 pm to 7:00 pm on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell.
Memorials may be made payable to St. John's Lutheran Church or the St. Francis Manor Foundation, mailed in c/o Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, IA 50112.
Dale was born to Dale Roscoe Selix and Faye Alta (Woolums) Selix on December 18, 1939, in Centerville, Iowa. He graduated from Centerville High School in 1958, and he graduated from Parsons College in 1962.
Dale taught Language Arts at Clarke Community High School in Osceola, Iowa from 1962 to 1966. He received his M.A. degree from Northeast Missouri State Teachers College (now Truman University) in 1966.
Dale married Doris Larson on August 14, 1966, at First Lutheran Church in Ottumwa, Iowa. The couple were blessed with one son, Perry.
After being a guidance counselor in Osceola for two years, the family moved to Grinnell in 1968, where he became Junior High Guidance Counselor. He retired from that position in 1997. In retirement, he delivered flowers and played pool. Dale's favorite vacation spots were Branson, Missouri and Estes Park, Colorado.
He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church. His family was most important in his life, especially his three grandchildren.
Dale is survived by his wife of 58 years, Doris; his son Perry (Charla); his grandchildren, Charles, Tanner and Jenna, all of Joplin, Missouri; and his sister-in-law Mary Larson of Ottumwa, IA.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Dale and Faye Selix.
