Obituary

Dale Lee Hall, 85, of Guernsey, IA passed away on May 1, 2026, at Brooklyn Community Estates.

A visitation will be held from 9:00 am to 11:00 am on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, at Smith Funeral Home in Victor, IA. A funeral service will immediately follow the visitation, beginning at 11:00 am at Smith Funeral Home in Victor.

A graveside service will be held following the service at Guernsey Cemetery.

Following the graveside service, family and friends are encouraged to join together at Dale and Shirely's home to share food and memories.

Dale was born on May 8, 1940, in Grinnell, IA to Gene and Ruth Ahlene (Wylie) Hall. Dale grew up on the family farm outside Guernsey and graduated from Guernsey High School with the class of 1958.

On May 11, 1963, Dale was united in marriage to Shirley Becker at St. Matthew Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids, IA. To this union the couple had four children, Dennis, Laurie, David, and Brian.

A short time after his marriage Dale worked at Amana. He then spent the rest of his career farming with his dad.

Dale was a lifelong farmer, devoted friend, and beloved father, and passed away surrounded by the land and the people he loved. Born with soil in his hands and mischief in his smile, he spent his life working the fields, tending his crops, and helping anyone who needed a hand — usually before they even asked.

He enjoyed the simple joys that made life rich: a good game of rolle bolle, the shine of an old car, and a deck of cards he absolutely could not be trusted with. He cheated just enough to keep everyone honest and laughed just enough to make sure no one stayed mad.

He was ornery in the best way — stubborn, sharp witted, and always ready with a comeback. But beneath that tough exterior was a loyal friend and neighbor who showed up for others without hesitation. If something needed fixing, hauling, or figuring out, he was already on his way.

He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, humor, and generosity — the kind that lives on in stories told around kitchen tables and in the fields he loved. His presence will be deeply missed, but his spirit will always be part of the land he worked and the people he cared for.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley Hall, his children, Dennis (Jennifer Walter) Hall, Laurie (Paul Van Ersvelde) Hall, David (Lisa) Hall, and Brian (Hollie) Hall, his grandchildren, Alani, Nash, Brixton, Derek (Melissa), Larissa (Evan), Joey, Aaron, Tyler, Jackson, and Colin, his great-grandchildren, Zoey, Gage, Archer, Jaida, and Lincoln, and his sister-in-law, Violet Hall.

He is preceded by his parents, Gene and Ruth, and his siblings, Jane Otten, and Roger Hall, brother-in-law, Richard Otten, and daughter-in-law, Kim Hall.
