Curt Heinselman, 69, of rural Kellogg, died on Sunday, October 3, 2021 at UnityPoint Grinnell Regional Medical Center. A visitation will be held from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Wednesday, October 6, 2021 at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, October 7, 2021 at the Grinnell Christian Church. A luncheon will follow in the Family Life Center (gymnasium) of the Christian Church. Curtis Gene Heinselman was born May 14, 1952 in Charles City, Iowa to Velma (Manning) Heinselman and Harry Leonard Heinselman. He attended Republic Country School and Nashua Community School. He then attended Grinnell-Newburg School in 7th grade, graduating in 1970. Curt married his high school sweetheart, Kay Fuller on October 17, 1970 in Grinnell, Iowa. They lived in and around the Grinnell, Newburg, and Kellogg areas. Curt had a special place in his heart for horses growing up. He always had a love and talent to repair and paint vehicles and developed this specialty even in high school. He worked at The Ford Garage after graduation, Paschall Motors, General Telephone Company and Grinnell Mutual Reinsurance Company. He owned and operated Curt's Body Shop from 1976-1984, having Larry Manning join him as a partner the last few years. He farmed for a few years but returned to his true talent and owned and operated Curt's Collision Center from 1992 until his retirement in 2018.. Curt loved his family and the precious time he spent with them and his grandchildren's activities. Curt didn't know a stranger and enjoyed visiting with people. He liked the challenge of taking things apart and putting them back together. He loved the farm and being outside. He was a member of New Hope Christian Church and developed a lasting faith in God. Curt is survived by his wife of 50 years, Kay Heinselman of Kellogg; his children, Gregory (Michelle) Heinselman of Kellogg, Iowa and daughter, Stacey (Pete) Busch of Conrad, Iowa; grandchildren, Caleb and Chelsie Heinselman, and Abagail and Ryan Busch; two sisters, Dixie (late husband, Terry) Decker of Ottumwa, Iowa and Sue (Bill) Hahn of Marengo, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents. Memorials can be made to American Heart Association or American Diabetes Association.
