Obituary

Connie Gail Scurr, age 60, of Grinnell, Iowa, was welcomed into the arms of Jesus on Monday, December 22, 2025, surrounded by family and friends at the Iowa River Hospice House in Marshalltown, Iowa.

Connie Gail Paul was born on September 11, 1965, in Marshalltown, Iowa, the daughter of David Grant Paul and Joyce Ida (Sietmann) Paul. She graduated from SEMCO High School in 1984 and went on to attend the University of Iowa, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting in 1988. Connie married Joe Scurr, in August 1988. She proudly passed the CPA exam in May of 1991.

Connie devoted her professional life to various accounting roles, a career she both valued and excelled in. She spent 18 years at Maytag, 12 years at Interface Sealing Solutions, and 7 years at BakerStarrett where she continued to work until her passing. She deeply cherished her work and the many friendships she formed over the years.

Connie was a devoted mother. She and Joe were blessed with two sons, Joseph Blake Scurr, born August 11, 1992, and Clayton David Scurr, born August 26, 1995. She poured her heart into supporting her boys, whether through school activities, 4-H, or countless sporting events, and enjoyed working alongside them on the family farm. Over the years, Connie's home became a gathering place for many; she was truly the glue that held friends and family together. A cornerstone of the neighborhood gang.

Connie was deeply committed to her faith and was very active at the Grinnell United Methodist Church. She fed the multitudes at vacation bible school, taught Sunday school for many years, including 10 years as the high school Sunday school teacher and youth group counselor. A role she often said she received more than she gave. She also helped organize and prepare youth mission trips, served on numerous church committees, and had been a member of the church council for the past four years.

Her dedication to service extended throughout the community. Connie served eight years with the Greater Poweshiek Community Foundation, six years on the St. Francis Manor Board, volunteered in many capacities within the Grinnell School system, and supported local 4-H over the years. Whatever role she took on, Connie gave it her full heart.

Connie also found great joy in life's simple traditions and shared experiences. She had a deep love for the Iowa State Fair, a place that held countless happy memories and was a highlight of many summers. She also made time to enjoy life's adventures, checking off bucket-list trips such as Alaska and Germany. She loved sports, especially when it came to cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes.

Above all else, Connie's favorite role was being "Mimi" to her beloved grandchildren, a joy that brought her immeasurable happiness. Connie will be remembered for her deep faith, generous spirit, unwavering dedication to family and community, and the countless lives she touched with her kindness and love.

Connie was preceded in death by her father, David Paul; brother-in-law, Tom Dillman; and niece, Amy Dillman Price.

Those left to cherish her memory include her mother, Joyce Paul; her sons, Blake (Erinn) Scurr and their children, Savannah, Harrison, and Briggs; and Clayton (Madi) Scurr and their son, Tate David; her sisters, Dawn Dillman, Jeri (Tom) Graham, and Cindy Paul; along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, December 29, 2025, at the Grinnell United Methodist Church. A luncheon will follow in the Friendship Center of the church. Interment will take place at Graceland Cemetery in Laurel, Iowa, following the luncheon. Family will greet friends during a visitation from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, December 28, 2025, at Smith Funeral Home - Grinnell.
