Claude was born on March 13, 1945, in Waterloo, Iowa to Everett and Thelma Mixdorf Carroll. He received his education in the Alma Public School System and served with the United States Marine Corp. He was married to Roma Matteson on November 22, 1969 in Newton. The couple lived in Newton and Grinnell. He was employed as a welder for the Farmhand Company in Grinnell and the Martin-Marietta Company in Sully. He also worked for C & K Transfer in Grinnell. He is survived by his mother, Thelma Watson; his wife, Roma Carroll of Grinnell; one step-son, Clark Dayton of Pasadena, Maryland; two step-daughters, Kim Dayton of Marshalltown and Lori Beason of Oskaloosa; three step grandchildren; three step great grandchildren; one sister, Jeanne Mangrich; and three brothers, Jim, Mike and Raymond Carroll. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his step father, Leonard Watson.
