Cheri LeAnn (Steele) Monteleone, age 64, of Grinnell passed away on Friday, March 5, 2021 at her home.
A Celebration of Life open house will be held from 12pm-1:30pm Saturday, March 13, 2021 at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. Burial at Hazelwood Cemetery will take place at a later date. Memorial contributions may be designated to the Cheri Monteleone Memorial Fund.
Cheri was born September 16, 1956, the daughter of Warner and Shirley Steele in Grinnell. She was raised in Grinnell and attended Grinnell High School with the class of 1974.
Following high school Cheri married Jeff Monteleone and to this union their daughter Tawny Dawn was born. She was later married to Duane Cloyed. Cheri then met the love of her life, John Robson, and have been together since 1987. She raised her family in Grinnell and during that time worked in the manufacturing industry working with her brother at Robintek, and maintained the Grinnell rest area on I-80. One of her favorite jobs was working for Sweets Laundry in Grinnell. For many years she was caregiver for her mother, Shirley, until her passing in 2008.
Cheri had a love for animals, especially horses, she had many fond memories riding with Kathy and family. Cheri enjoyed her Missouri trips with her mother to visit family. She loved to cook, was a meticulous cleaner, and loved music and dancing. Her daughter Tawny and granddaughter Emma were the most precious people in her life, Emma being her "Little Goober."
John and Cheri's life together was filled with many movie nights, watching boxing, dancing, singing, and playing games. They both adored their cat, Sissy. John took loving care of Cheri when she became ill. She was his Wovey and he was her Lovey.
Survivors include her daughter Tawny (Danny) VanTomme, granddaughter Emma, life partner John Robson, special Aunt Dode, of Kirksville, MO, many cousins, three nieces, John's daughter Michelle Ouren and her family of Newton, and her good friend Pam Bennington. She was preceded in death by her parents Shirley and Warner Steele, brother Terry Steele, maternal and paternal grandparents, and her best friend Kathy Jones. She will be sadly missed by all who loved her.
