Cecil Brim, 94, of Grinnell died Tuesday, April 4, 2006, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell. Funeral services for Mr. Brim will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 8, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell, with the Rev. Jack Mithelman, chaplain at Grandview College in Des Moines and Rev. Kirsten Klepfer, pastor of Grinnell First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Organist will be Kathleen McCune and vocalist will be Rich Thorson. Pallbearers will be Ed Adkins, James and Tom Hotchkin, Bob Hoisington, Ed Ingram, Mike Johnson, Doyle 'Mike' Mikles, and Sam Osborn. Honorary bearers will be Earl Blair and C.J. 'Duke' McCurry. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell. Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home and where the family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00 Friday evening. Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Francis Manor. The son Earl and Carol May Saylor Brim, he was born October 18, 1911, in Nemaha, Kansas. He lived in Sabetha, Kansas for several years and following the deaths of his father and brother to influenza, he moved with his mother and family to Wyoming in 1918. He moved to a farm north of Kellogg in 1925 and attended Jasper County Public Schools. Following his education he was employed as a farm hand and at Grinnell College. He was a veteran of the United States Navy during World War II. On March 30, 1941, he was married to Hazel Bryan in Grinnell, where the couple made their home. After the war, he returned to Grinnell and was employed for several years with his brother-in-law, LeRoy Mithelman, building houses and later with Lang's Dairy. In the early 1950's, he purchased the Skelly service station on 6th Avenue in Grinnell and operated the station until his retirement in 1975. He was a member of the Grinnell First Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his wife, Hazel of Grinnell and one daughter, Marilyn Wallis of Sherman, Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter in infancy, Mary Kay Brim; one sister, Marcele Llamas; and two brothers, Francis and Kenneth Brim.
