The daughter of Joseph and Kate Kline Reitzler. Catherine was born September 6, 1916 on a farm south of Brooklyn. She attended a one-room schoolhouse around Brooklyn and graduated from St. John's High School in Victor.
Catherine was married to Donald Paul Nowotny on June 28, 1937 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Brooklyn. The couple farmed northeast of Victor until 1975 when they moved to Victor to make their home.
For the last three years Catherine lived at Lakeview Village in Amana. She was the owner of M & N Grain and Feed Business located in Victor and a member of St. Bridget Catholic Church in Victor.
Katherine is survived by her son, Don Nowotny Jr. of Chicago, IL, Ted Reitzler, brother of North English; son-in-law Thomas Shepherd and his wife Judy of Cedar Rapids; son-in-law Rick Cole of Victor; five grandchildren; Kevin Shepherd and his wife Angie of Phoenix, Az.; Kerry Shepherd and his wife Therese of Phoenix, AZ; Karl Shepherd and his wife Cindy of Cedar Rapids, IA; Kathy and her husband Kevin Nanke of Edmund, OK; and Kelsey Shepherd and her husband Davin Flatten of Greenfield, MS. Great Grandchildren are Christopher Smithling of Bahrain (US Air force), Emily, Kalvin and Natalie Shepherd of Cedar Rapids, Grant and Elijah Nanke of Edmund, OK; and one great great grandson, Deven Smithling of Phoenix, AZ.
Catherine died March 27 at Lakeview Village in Amana at the age of 88. She was preceded in death by her husband and two daughters, Judith Shepherd and JoAnn Cole.
