Carolyn J. Refer, 85, of Victor, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, February 3, 2021 in Glen Ellyn, Illinois.
A Celebration of Life will be held 10:00 am, Saturday, June 26, 2021 at the Smith Funeral Home- Victor. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service, starting at 9:00 am. Burial will follow the service at Victor Memorial Cemetery.

Carolyn June Sikir was born on June 10, 1935 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of John and Josephine (Kubisek) Sikir, and grew up on the family farm near Chelsea, Iowa. She attended country school and graduated from Belle Plaine High School before spending one year at the Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
Carolyn was united in marriage to Everett Refer on September 4, 1954 and moved to Victor. To this union they had two sons, Paul and Lynn Refer. She worked several years at the Victor Post Office and then spent many years at the Farmers Savings Bank in Victor before retiring in 2000. Carolyn and Everett celebrated 49 years of marriage before he passed in 2003.
Carolyn enjoyed many social activities and hobbies in and around Victor. She was an active member of the United Methodist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary, and the Rebekah Lodge. She enjoyed camping and picnics with friends, sewing, refinishing furniture, cooking, card games with friends, birthday clubs, the Red Hat Society, and attending her children and grandchildren's activities. She was a very active and accomplished quilter, and enjoyed time with the Heartland Quilters Club. She and her late husband Everett traveled to many parts of the country as well as internationally including several trips to Prague to celebrate her Czech heritage and visit relatives. Carolyn always expressed joy in working with many local customers at the bank.
Carolyn is survived by her son, Lynn Refer of Glen Ellyn, IL; her grandchildren, Ambri Refer of Cedar Falls, Seth (Kelsey) Refer of Leighton, Quinn (Jack) Refer of Glen Ellyn, IL, and Spencer Refer of Glen Ellyn; and great grandchild Mason Refer. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Everett, son Paul, sisters Gladys (Russ) Hecht and Darlene (Renn) Tiedemann, and siblings Evelyn and Leonard both in infancy.
