Obituary

Carol Ann Hasbrouck, 50, of Monroe, died November 14, 2007, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Saturday, November 17, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Pastor David Pinkerton, pastor of the Taintor Community Church, officiating. Pallbearers will be Ryan, Cory, Christopher, and Josh Figland, and Jason and Anthony Hasbrouck. Burial will be in the Searsboro Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m. Friday at the Smith Funeral Home and where the family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00 Friday evening. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Carol Ann Hasbrouck Memorial Fund. The daughter of Chester L. and Linda James Figland, Carol was born October 25, 1957, in Grinnell. She was raised in the Lynnville-Sully area and was a 1976 graduate of Lynnville High School. She later received an AA degree at DMACC in Des Moines. After high school she moved to Newton and was employed at Heritage Manor there. She later was employed at the Newton Correctional Facility as a secretary from 1980 to 1988. On May 30, 1987, she was married to Paul Hasbrouck in Newton and the couple made their home in the Monroe area. Carol was very devoted to her family and she loved her grandchildren. She enjoyed bowling and was on a women's bowling league team. She also enjoyed riding horses, the outdoors, camping, and fishing. She is survived by her husband, Paul of Monroe; one daughter, Dawn (John) Gomez of Monroe; three step-sons, Jason (Becca) Hasbrouck of Cambridge, Adam Hasbrouck of Graettinger, and Anthony (Jessica) Hasbrouck of Emmettsburg; her mother and step-father, Linda and Lowell Goemaat of Lynnville; her grandmother, Mabel Lewis of Grand River, Iowa; three brothers, Chester (Vickie) Figland of Monroe, Michael (Lisa) Figland of Knoxville, and Nick (Kristy) Figland of Kellogg; and six grandchildren, Cody and Blake Gomez, and Logan, Lilliana, Caden, and Tristen Hasbrouck. She was preceded in death by her father, Chester L. Figland; her sister, Lisa Kay Figland; and a nephew, Nathan Figland.
