Obituary

Carol A. Foster, 79, of Malcom, died Thursday, November 6, 2014, at the Grinnell Regional Medical Center. A private family graveside service will be held. Visitation will be from 12 noon to 4 p.m., Sunday, November 9, 2014, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. Carol's family will be present from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday afternoon. Memorials may be directed to the Carol A. Foster Memorial Fund and sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home. Carol Ann Foster was born on September 12, 1935, the daughter of Leon and Lois (Slycord) Johnson in Montezuma, Iowa. She attended Poweshiek #6 country school near Malcom and graduated from Grinnell High School with the class of 1953. On August 29, 1954, she married Gerald Foster. From this union six children were born; Rick, Randy, Rod, Leroy, Scott, and Shelley. The couple later divorced. She was a member of the Hartwick Baptist Church. She was a telephone operator at GTE in Grinnell and later worked in the electronics department at Wal-Mart from 1987-2011. Carol enjoyed crocheting afghans, needlepoint, cross stitching, sewing and reading. She attended lots of country music shows. She traveled to many places; Branson, Missouri and Nashville, Tennessee being her favorite places. She enjoyed Storm Seymour's music and consider him and his family part of her own. Her greatest love was for her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Rick (Kathy) Foster of Gladbrook, Randy Foster of Tijeras, New Mexico, Rod Foster of Malcom, Leroy (Diane) Foster of Malcom, Scott (Jennifer) Foster of Midlothian, Texas and Shelley (Karlin) Kelley of Fort Calhoun, Nebraska; seven grandchildren, Allison (Bret) Draper, Kyle (Kate) Kelley, Natasha (fiancé, Kyle Ogden) Kelley, Tanner Foster, Tucker Foster, Tripp Purdy and Kate Purdy and two great grandchildren, Kahlynn Draper and Ashlynn Draper. She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Jerry Johnson in 1997.
