Carol Evelyn Crawford, 91, of Grinnell, died on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at the Mayflower Community Health Care Center in Grinnell, IA. Her friends and family all knew her to be a good Christian woman.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, January 13, 2024 at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. A luncheon will follow at the Elks Lodge in Grinnell. Interment will be held at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.
The family will receive friends at the visitation held prior to the service beginning at 10:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to the Mayflower Community Health Care Center. Memories and condolences may be shared with Carol's family online at www.smithfh.com.
Carol Evelyn Pierce Crawford was born April 1, 1932, in Grinnell, IA, to Marshall and Clarice (Guyer) Pierce. She attended school in Grinnell.
She married Richard Paul Crawford on June 7, 1947. They were the proud parents of Ben Crawford and Richard Crawford Jr. They celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary with family and friends on June 6, 1987.
Carol helped Dick with Crawford Tree Service until his death December 6, 1987. She loved cooking for family & friends, reading and studying her Bible, music, writing poetry, bird watching, and most of all she loved her family.
Survivors include her son, Richard (Sara) Crawford Jr. of Sioux Falls, SD; her daughter-in-law, Marla Crawford of Grinnell; grandchildren, Carrie (Clayton) Tiedemann of Rock Creek Lake near Grinnell, Cristina (Blake) DeKoning of Grinnell, Charity (Craig) Bertenshaw of Tucson, AZ, Clint (Michelle) Crawford of Eldridge, IA, Richard Crawford III of Collegeville, MN, and Bill (Rachel) Crawford of Sioux Falls, SD; great-grandchildren and pallbearers, Payton Martin (Dan Gilliam) and Kaelin (Levi) Cordes; Bryce (Ashley) DeKoning, Jarrett & Drew DeKoning; Ayla Tudor; Ben, Luke and Wil Crawford; Rory Crawford; great-great grandson, Dawson DeKoning; sister, Betty Paul; sister-in-law, Eileen Pierce; Aunt Clovis Hollman; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dick Crawford; son, Ben; brothers, Charles (Dorothy) Pierce and Bob Pierce; sisters, Bernadine (Joe) Brown, Joan (Bud) Stevenson, Nadine (Jerry) Allen; brother-in-law, Kutter Paul; and great-granddaughter, Evelyn Grace DeKoning.
