Carmen Nadine Wiebold, 90, of Grinnell, passed away on Thursday, March 10, 2022 at Windsor Manor in Grinnell.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 19th, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell, with Rev. Dr. Joel G. Koepp, Grinnell Immanuel Lutheran Church, officiating. Organist will be Esther Huedepohl. A private family burial will be held on the following Monday, March 21st, at Ivy Hill Cemetery in Malcom.
The Wiebold family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Memorials may be designated to the Lady Elks, Lady Eagles Auxiliary, Poweshiek County Bowling Association, or the Immanuel Lutheran Church and mailed in c/o the Smith Funeral Home, P.O. Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112.
Carmen was born on the family farm in Poweshiek County, on February 13, 1932, to Earl Leroy and Leona Sophia Christian (Stemsrud) Reedy. She was raised in the area and graduated from Malcom High School in 1949.
On December 6, 1952, she was united in marriage to Melvin E. Wiebold, in Cedar Rapids. The couple farmed near Toledo and Cedar Rapids, prior to moving to Grinnell in 1955. They had three children, Steven and twins, Bryan and Brett.
Carmen was employed at GTE in Grinnell as an accounting assistant until her retirement on April 30, 1987. In 1996, she started working as a teller at the University of Iowa Credit Union in Grinnell, and she retired in 2006.
Carmen was active in the community as a member of Grinnell Lady Elks, the Eagles Auxiliary, and the Grinnell Immanuel Lutheran Church. She sang in the church choir and laundered their communion linens for 24 years. She enjoyed dancing her whole life, until she had knee surgery, and loved crocheting and bowling. She played on a bowling league for nearly 40 years, 1960 to 1999. She was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs, Iowa Cubs, and Iowa Hawkeyes.
Carmen is survived by her son, Bryan (Lolita) Wiebold of Pensacola, Florida; six grandchildren, Trenton Wiebold of Missouri, Kylie Wiebold of Houston, Texas, Stephanie Wiebold of Wardsville, Missouri, Kindra (Gerald) Neal of Grinnell, Brett Wiebold of Pensacola, and Lori Ann (Josh) Gonzales of Montz, Louisiana; and 14 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Melvin in 1995; two sons, Steven in 1997 and Brett, in infancy in 1957; one great-grandchild; three siblings, Earl, Norman and Patricia Reedy; and her step-father, Ray Dayton.
