Carmen J. Schulze, 55, of Grinnell died January 3, 2013, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 8, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Rev. John Epperson of Grinnell officiating. Pallbearers will be Skylar Bailey, Garold and Jimmy Nelson, Tim Schultz, and Dennis and Mitch Schulze. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m. Monday at the funeral home with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 Monday evening.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Multiple Sclerosis Foundation.
Carmen was born February 15, 1957, in Fort Belvoir, Virginia, the daughter of Tennyson and Irene May Gaffney Yerdon. While her father served in the Army she was raised on several army bases in the United States and Germany. She later moved with her family to Sigourney, Iowa where she was a 1975 graduate of Sigourney High School.
She was employed with GTE and later Verizon as a switch board operator for 30 years. She retired in 2005.
On August 3, 1979, she was united in marriage with Raymond Nelson, in Grinnell, where the couple made their home. Following his death in 1987, she was married to Michael Schulze on August 19, 1989, in Millersburg, Iowa. They continued to live in Grinnell.
She was a member of the Grinnell Eagles Club Auxiliary.
Carmen was devoted to her family and loved them dearly. She was a caring person and enjoyed visiting and socializing with family and friends. She loved shopping, entertaining people and Chinese food. She enjoyed listening to music and watching TV.
Survivors include her husband, Mike of Grinnell; one daughter, Jenny (Mike) Miller of Montezuma; two step-children, Lori Nelson of Grinnell and Brad Nelson of Chattanooga, Tennessee, one brother, Bob Yerdon of Omaha, Nebraska; and one granddaughter, Mackenzi Audas of Montezuma. She was preceded in death by her parents and her first husband.
