Carl L. Dillon, 65, of Grinnell died July 22, 201, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 27, at the Trinity Lutheran Church, north of Malcom with Pastor Kalen Barkholtz officiating. Organist will be Helen Berrey and guitarist/soloist Nick Wallace. Pallbearers will be Eric Bailey, Nate Benesh, Richard Gilbreaith, Mark Guthrie, Jim Vanderveer and Dennis 'Pee Wee' Whannel. Honorary bearers will be Ben and Nick Wallace, Jason and Troy Dillon, Jim Graham, John Hasley, Camiel Landuyt and Paul Asberry. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery with military rites provided by the Grinnell American Legion Honor Guard.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with the family present from 6:00 to 8:00 Tuesday evening.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the Grinnell High School Athletic or Fine Arts Departments.
Carl was born February 20, 1946, in Poweshiek County, the son of Charles Leon and Nola Nettie Lidtka Dillon. He was raised in the Malcom area and attended country school and Malcom schools prior to graduating from Grinnell High School in 1964. He was a veteran of the United States Army and served in the Vietnam War.
On October 14, 1966, he was united in marriage to Judy Van Draska at his family home. The couple lived in Grinnell where he was employed for 40 years at Donaldson Company. He retired in 2008. He was a member of the Grinnell American Legion and the U.A.W #1201
Carl enjoyed spending his time with his family. His two grandsons, Ben and Nick were very special to him and he particularly enjoyed attending all their school activities. He was a loud cheer! He loved to travel, attend auctions, and socializing with family and friends.
Survivors include his wife Judy, one daughter Kim (Mark) Wallace, two grandchildren Ben and Nick, and one brother Fred (Vicki) Dillon all of Grinnell. He was preceded in death by his parents and one son Christopher Todd Dillon.
