Bruce Benson, 67, of Rock Creek Township, died on Monday, May 8, 2023, at his home.

As per Bruce's wishes, a private graveside service will be held at a later date.

Memorial contributions may be designated to the Family of Bruce Benson and mailed in care of Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, IA 50112.

Bruce Dwaine Benson was born on December 5, 1955, in Newton, IA, the son of Louis and Colleen Sharp Benson. He was raised in Kellogg and graduated from Newton High School.

Bruce was united in marriage to Paula Jeanie Phipps on April 16, 1977, and the couple was blessed with two daughters, Julie and Becky. The marriage later ended in divorce. Bruce worked as a truck driver, hauled milk for Beatrice Cheese and later worked for the Jasper County Secondary Roads Department for many years before his retirement. He also assisted friends with livestock farming.

Bruce enjoyed watching dirt track racing and NASCAR, he was a huge fan of Dale Earnhardt. He was also an avid PBR fan and attended many rodeo and bull riding events over the years, one of his favorites being a trip he took to the World Finals that was held in Las Vegas.

Bruce is survived by his daughters, Julie (Josh) Lacaeyse and Becky Benson, his siblings, Lisa Cross, Kathy Merten, Joyce Cox, Danny Benson, and Benny Benson, five grandchildren, one great-grandchild, and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Nancy Shepard.
