Obituary

Bonnie J. Peiffer, 90, of Grinnell, died on Saturday, March 12, 2016, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell. The family will be present at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 21, 2016. A private family graveside service will be at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell with Rev. David Crow, pastor of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, officiating. Should friends desire, memorials in Bonnie's name may be directed to PALS or to Grinnell Regional Hospice and sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home, P.O. Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112. Bonnie was born on May 10, 1925 in Sigourney, Iowa to Harry and Cecil Peick Simpson. She was raised in Washington, Iowa and graduated from Washington High School. Later, she attended Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri and the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas. On August 31, 1948, she was united in marriage to Paul Peiffer. The couple lived in various areas of the United States with Paul's work on the railroad. In 1966, the family moved to Grinnell and she worked as a legal secretary for the Bierman Law Firm. In 1974, she purchased the Poweshiek Abstract Company in Grinnell and operated it until she sold the business to her son, Matt, in 1988. Bonnie was a member of the United Methodist Church, PEO Chapter NF, the Iowa Land Title Association and the American Land Title Association. She enjoyed reading, traveling throughout the United States and Europe and following the Iowa Hawkeyes. She is survived by her husband, Paul Peiffer of Grinnell; her children, Debbi (Jerry) Murty of rural Tama, IA and Matt (Ann) Peiffer of Grinnell; eight grandchildren, Amy (Chris Pfantz) Murty, Lisa (Clinton) Jarrett, Tim (Ashley) Murty, Michelle Murty, Stephanie (Andrew) Hoopes, Nick (Kara) Peiffer, Sam Peiffer and Madison (Nick) Brooks; and 16 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant brother, Jack Simpson.
