William Craig Vosburg (Bill) was born July 21,1950 in Grinnell, Iowa, the son of Wilma (Love) Vosburg and Keith Vosburg. The family lived in Gilman, Iowa until 1955 when they moved to Grinnell. After graduating from Grinnell High School in 1968, Bill attended Iowa State University receiving his degree in Construction Engineering in 1971.
He enlisted in the United States Navy in January of 1972 and served for four years during the Viet Nam war as a draftsman on the Admirals staff, receiving numerous achievement awards. He served on several aircraft carriers, and then was stationed in Naples, Italy as repair specialist for the USS Piedmont. While overseas, he accumulated enough leave time to take an extensive motorcycle tour of Europe.
After his term in the Navy, he returned to Grinnell to work with his father in their retail lumber business. In 1977, an arsonist's fire leveled the business. They replaced the buildings with the first drive-through lumberyard in Grinnell and continued to operate the business until 1996. Subsequently Bill worked in wholesale building products sales throughout Iowa and as a project estimator before starting his own contracting business. Working as a remodeling contractor was the highlight of his career.
In 1979, Bill married Pamela Darnell. Together they raised four children. He was a devoted husband and father, enjoying all his children's activities. Bill was a master craftsman, designing and building four different homes for his family, along with numerous other building projects. He enjoyed playing his tuba, participating in community, college, Dixieland, and retired military bands. He also had a passion for antique cars and early in his marriage was seen sporting a 1925 Model T around town.
Bill served terms as President of the Grinnell Chamber of Commerce, Grinnell Lions Club, and Grinnell United Way, and was a founding stockholder in Greater Grinnell Development Corp. He was a lifelong member of the UCC church in Grinnell, holding positions of Moderator and Trustee.
Bill is survived by his wife Pam; mother, Wilma Vosburg; siblings, Lynn (Dennis) Pelisek, Nancy (Rhonda Scull) Vosburg; his children, Blake (Jenny Carberry) Vosburg, Allison (Tanner Van Roekel) Vosburg, Joanna Vosburg, and Nathaniel Vosburg; and four grandchildren, Madison, Emma, and Sophia Vosburg, and Brooks Vosburg. He was preceded in death by his father Keith.
