Bill Gilbreaith, 89, of Grinnell, died on Thursday, November 30, 2023, at UnityPoint Grinnell Regional Medical Center.
Bill's family will receive friends at the memorial gathering held from 2:00 pm – 5 pm on Saturday, January 6, 2024 at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. A private family interment will be held at Rock Creek Cemetery near Kellogg.

Bill Harold Gilbreaith was born the son of Clyde and Doris (Strong) Gilbreaith near Deep River, Iowa. He attended elementary school in Brooklyn and Grinnell and graduated from Grinnell High School with the class of 1952.
On June 13, 1954, Bill was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart, Joyce M. Taylor at the Grinnell United Methodist Church. Their marriage was blessed with a son, Billy, and a daughter, Brenda. They resided on an acreage southwest of Grinnell all of their married lives. Bill worked as a Ford technician in Grinnell for over 40 years until his retirement in 1996. They were members of the Grinnell United Methodist Church and Bill served on several church committees. Bill enjoyed the peace and tranquility of country life on their acreage. As a couple, they enjoyed traveling. Bill's greatest treasure was his family, especially his grandchildren.
Bill is survived by his wife of 69 years, Joyce Gilbreaith of Grinnell; son, Billy (Jennifer) Gilbreaith of Grinnell; daughter, Brenda Peulen of Salem, OR; four grandchildren, Bryan (Allison) Gilbreaith of Ankeny, IA Julie (Derelle) Gladden of Kingsland, GA, Adam Peulen of Salem, OR, and Alison Peulen of Salem, OR; five great-grandchildren, Taylor, Brailey, Jayden, Andrew, and Tallulah; and his siblings, Joan Badger of Grinnell, Gary Gilbreaith of West Des Moines, IA, Richard Gilbreaith of Grinnell, and Roger Gilbreaith of Toledo, IA. Bill was preceded in death by his parents; son-in-law, Alex Peulen; and his loving dog, Scottie.
