Betty was born to the late Charles and Elizabeth Wauters in February of 1932. Her adventurous nature showed when she told her parents after graduating from high school that she wanted a motorcycle; they said no. So, she told them that if she could not have a motorcycle, she was going to go to California to work. In California, she worked and bought a bright yellow Harley Davidson. She also met Bob Price, who she married one year later, in June of 1953. Though they met in California they both grew up in Iowa 15 miles apart (Hartwick and Brooklyn).
The day of the wedding was symbolic of some of the challenges Betty was to face in the future when a tornado hit the family home. She was flat on the porch while all the wedding gifts were sucked out the window above her. Nine years later, Bob was killed in a car accident leaving Betty with four children, one being a newborn. She took the challenges with faith and prayers.
Betty traveled all over the U.S by motorcycle with family and friends. She continued motorcycling until she turned 80, when she realized that the bike was getting too much for her to hold up. Turning 80 didn't stop her from taking one more adventure with her family when they all went snowmobiling in Yellowstone because she wanted to stand beside Old Faithful for her 80th birthday.
When asked if she would ever want to do international travel, she responded that "there is so much to see in the US why would I need to go anywhere else." But then she was asked to go on a mission trip with the Saint Patrick's Catholic church in Brooklyn and she discovered a passion for exploring new cultures and countries. When asked what was her favorite country that she visited she always said Vietnam, until she went to India and then that became her favorite country.
Throughout Betty's many years of living in Brooklyn, she served on the boards to help develop the senior apartments, the ambulance service and the flag display to name a few. She also trained to be one of the first EMTs to serve as a volunteer for the ambulance
Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Robert B Price, her two sons, Robert B Price, Jr, and Michael C Price. Betty is survived by her two daughters, Linda (Robert) Ludwig and Christy (Mike) Pifer and a sister, Pat Wauters.
