Betty Harris, 79, of Grinnell, died on Tuesday, September 6, 2022, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell.

Visitation will begin at 1:00 pm on Friday, September 9, 2022, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell and her family will receive friends from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm.

Betty Sue Tomek was born the daughter of Robert and Paulette (Finks) Tomek on April 8, 1943 in Washington, Missouri. She was raised in Wright City, Missouri and graduated from Wright City High School with the class of 1961. She attended NE Missouri State University in Kirksville, Missouri.

Betty was united in marriage to Dennis Harris on April 4, 1964 in Harrisonville, Missouri. They were blessed with two children, Richele and Bradford, and raised their family on the Harris family farm north of Grinnell. For over 25 years, she greeted folks with her beautiful smile who shopped at Hammond's Hallmark in Grinnell. She enjoyed bowling, gardening, playing cards, clothes and jewelry shopping, and traveling, especially beach vacations. Her family was dearest to her and she never missed an opportunity to go watch her children's and grandchildren's school and sporting events.

Betty is survived by her husband of 59 years, Denny Harris of Grinnell; daughter, Richele (Dwayne) Smith of Lee's Summit, Missouri; son, Brad (Lynette) Harris of Grinnell; grandchildren, Miles (Alex) Serig and their son Cooper, Dain (Maddie Wilkins) Harris, Dillyn Harris, Daysi Harris, and Colin Smith; and her sister, Barbara Tomek of E. Palatka, Florida. She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Pauletta (Finks) Tomek.
