Obituary

Betty Marie Evans, 70, of Grinnell died Monday, April 4, 2005, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center. Funeral services for Mrs. Evans will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 7, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with the Rev. David Rogula, pastor of the Brooklyn Methodist Church, officiating. Pallbearers will be Howard Inman, Damion, Derek, and Richard Marsh, Don Patten, and Jim Spencer. Honorary bearers will be Kenny Beaderstadt, George Evans, David Gerard, Chris Hamilton, and Joe Patten. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Montezuma. Memorial contributions may be directed to the Betty Evans Memorial Fund. The daughter of Walter and Florence Marie Harper Cline, she was born September 20, 1934, in Grinnell, where she was raised and received her education. She lived for awhile in California and Utah and later moved to the Montezuma area. She was employed as a cook at several restaurants in Poweshiek County and for 15 years she was a cook at Diamond Life Health Care in Montezuma. She retired in 2002 and returned to Grinnell to make her home in November of 2004. She was married to LeRoy Patten and later Bill Marsh prior to her marriage to James Evans on February 24, 1989, in Montezuma. She was a member of the Grinnell American Legion Auxiliary and Grinnell Eagles Club. Survivors include six children, Linda Gerard, Lorraine Patten, and Richard Marsh, all of Grinnell, Don LeRoy Patten of Tiffin, Mike Marsh of Muscatine, and Erin Spencer of Gilman; one brother, Edwin Cline of Marshalltown; two sisters, Louise Miller of Des Moines and Marjorie Weese of Pleasant Hill; two brothers-in-law, George Evans and Kenny Beaderstadt, both of Newton; 19 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; one daughter, Patty Marsh; two brothers, Kenneth and Edward Cline; one sister, Virginia Cline; and two grandchildren.
