Bertha Moll, age 83, of Grinnell, passed away Monday, June 7, 2004 at Grinnell Regional Medical Center. A graveside service for Bertha will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, June 10th at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell, with Rev. John Epperson, minister of the Grinnell Christian Church, presiding. Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home beginning at 12 noon, where the family will be present from 6 - 8 p.m. on Wednesday evening. Memorial contributions may be directed to Grinnell Regional Home Health. Bertha was born the daughter of Roe and Mabel Marshall Belcher on November 13, 1920 in Grinnell. She was raised and educated in Grinnell and was a Grinnell High School graduate. Bertha was united in marriage to Donald Lemke. To this union, five sons, Donald, William, Albert, Earl, and Gerald, were born. The couple continued to reside in Grinnell, where Bertha worked at the Grinnell Shoe Factory, St. Francis Hospital, and Lone Elm Nursing Home. Her marriage to Donald ended in divorce in the early 1960's. Bertha moved to Des Moines in the early 1960's. She met and later was married to Marion Moll. She was employed at local Des Moines nursing homes as well as being employed at Medicenter in Des Moines for twenty-five years. In 1998, Bertha returned to Grinnell and resided at Brookside West to be closer to her family. Bertha was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed reading and bowling as her hobbies. She also enjoyed making crafts such as crocheting, knitting, and plastic canvas. Bertha is survived by her sons; Donald and his wife Gloria of Crowley, Texas, William and his wife Karen of Grinnell, Earl and his wife Joan of Grinnell, Gerald and his wife Diane of Bloomfield, Iowa; her daughter-in-law Nyta Lemke of Malcom, Iowa; her twelve grandchildren; several great grandchildren; and several great-great grandchildren. Bertha passed away on Monday, June 7, 2004 at Grinnell Regional Medical Center. She was eighty-three years of age and was preceded in death by her parents; her son Albert on November 19, 2001; her brother James Belcher; and her sisters Nancy Lemke and Luvica Flathers.
