Berneice I. Williams, 87, of Montezuma, died on Monday, August 18, 2014, at the Montezuma Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m., Thursday, August 21, 2014, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Marvin Freeborn officiating. Teri Johnson will be a pianist and soloist. Casket Bearers will be Joshua Williams, Rodney Hamilton, Matthew Facile, T.C. Mkandawire, Paul Johnson and Richard Rutherford. Honorary casket bearer will be John Westercamp. Burial will be at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell. Friends may call the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell beginning 12 noon on Wednesday and the family will be present at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Should friends desire, memorials may be given to either the Montezuma Nursing Home or to the Care Imitative Hospice and sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home, P.O. Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112. Berneice was born on January 4, 1927, in Grinnell, Iowa to Tilford Bell and Mary Elizabeth Koger Innis. She was raised in Grinnell and attended Grinnell schools. Following her education, she worked at the Grinnell Shoe Company and the Raven Restaurant. In 1945, she was united in marriage to Ralph D. Williams. The couple operated a grain and livestock farm west of Barnes City. Berneice was a homemaker and loving mother of five children. Following the death of her husband in 1976, she lived in Grinnell and Barnes City before moving to the Montezuma Nursing and Rehabilitation Center two years ago. She enjoyed spending time with her family and attending the Barnes City Community Life Church. Survivors include her children, Dale (Terri) Williams of Clutier, IA, Linda (Rodney) Hamilton of Barnes City, IA, Susie (Harold) DeBrower of Montezuma, IA, Daryl Williams and Daniel Williams, both of Barnes City; nine grandchildren; nineteen great grandchildren; and two sisters, Mary Loupee of Altoona, IA and Rachel Crawford of Grinnell. She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; four brothers, Tilford B. Innis Jr, Russell Innis, Harold Innis and Charles Innis; and two sisters, Ruth Burr and Hazel Innis.
