Barbara Jean Hearn, 76, of the Mayflower Home in Grinnell died Wednesday, May 4, 2005, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.
Her body was deeded to the University of Iowa Department of Anatomy in Iowa City. Memorial services are pending this summer at the Mayflower Home Carman Center in Grinnell.
The daughter of Herbert and Esther Caseley Mundhenke, she was born June 29, 1928, in Taylorville, Illinois. She later moved with her family to Ft. Worth, Texas, where she was a 1945 graduate of Paschal High School. She received her BA degree at Texas Christian University in 1949. She was married to Rev. Ben F. Hearn, Jr. June 15, 1949, in Ft. Worth. The couple lived in Texas and Michigan prior to moving to Ft. Dodge in 1964. They later moved to the Mayflower Home in Grinnell in 1987. She was member of the United Church of Christ ' Congregational in Ft. Dodge and later Grinnell, where she was active with the Church Women United and Women's Fellowship of the U.C.C. ' Congregational. She was a member of the American Association of University Women, PEO and numerous environmental, human rights, and wildlife organizations, including Habitat For Humanity.
Survivors include three children and their spouses, David and Linda Hearn of Ft. Dodge, Nancy and Donn Jann of Phoenix, Arizona, and James and Harriett Hearn of Houston, Texas; and two sisters, Margaret Autrey and her husband, Hal of Princeton, Illinois and Elizabeth Kubis of Downers Grove, Illinois. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
