Obituary

Barbara Louise Roe was born on December 19, 1925 in Grinnell, Iowa to George D. Roe and Emma Edith (Halterman) Roe. She was raised in Grinnell and graduated from Grinnell High School with the class of 1943. On April 19, 1946, Barbara was united in marriage to Clifford Duncan, Jr. at the Gretna Green Chapel in Las Vegas, Nevada. They moved to Grinnell from California in 1947. Barbara was a homemaker, who raised four daughters and was the "official" bookkeeper of Duncan Electric. She also owned and operated Barb's Ceramics and held painting classes for people to gather, paint and have good conversation. She then took up quilting and made countless quilts for her family members and friends. She was an avid stamp collector and loved antiques. Barbara's biggest enjoyment was her family. Barb and Cliff enjoyed going to high school football, basketball and wrestling meets that the girls were all cheerleaders at. They also enjoyed their many trips to California to see Cliff's family, attending their grandchildren's activities, going on fishing trips to Minnesota, attending big family reunions, and going to golfing and bowling tournaments. Barbara is survived by three daughters, Hepsie (Ray) Bywater of Long Island, New York, Dodie (Wilbur) Telfer of Newton, Jackie (Pat) Akery of Brooklyn; one brother, Richard Roe of Gilman, Iowa; four grandchildren, Jennifer Woerter, Kevin Nagel, Carrie Scarbrough, and Scott Akery; and eleven great-grandchildren, Tyler and Dylan Woerter, Victor, Beau, and Rhett Nagel, Emma, Carl, and Vann Simpkins, and Kelly, Evan and Leah Akery. Barbara was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Clifford Duncan; daughter, Barbara Ann Huggins; two grandchildren, Ray Bywater and Daniel Akery; and siblings, George Roe, Jane Morton, Peggy Fleming, and Chuck Roe.
