Audrey M. Oltrogge, age 88, of Grinnell, died on Thursday, September 24, 2015, at the Mayflower Community Health Care Center in Grinnell.
A graveside service will be held 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 3, 2015, at Trinity Lutheran Cemetery north of Malcom with Rev. Christine Tinker, Mayflower Community Chaplain, officiating. Following the service, a reception will be held in the Carman Center of the Mayflower Community, located at 600 Park Street in Grinnell.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to the Mayflower Community Human Needs Fund, mailed in care of the Smith Funeral Home, PO Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112.
Audrey Mae Austin was born in Williamsburg, Iowa to Charles W. and Arta Frida (Gaggenheim) Austin on December 19, 1926. She grew up on the family farm near Grinnell, graduated from Grinnell High School, and studied cosmetology at the Des Moines School of Cosmetology.
She was united in marriage to Walter Oltrogge on June 19, 1949, in Nashua, Iowa. The couple farmed east of Grinnell and for many years she had a beauty shop in their home. Reminiscing about her life she commented "Walter and I had a new house built. We worked hard, traveled some, and enjoyed every minute of our life together." Audrey was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church northeast of Grinnell.
Audrey is survived by her children, Cindy (Mike) Kriegel of Grinnell and Fritz (Lori) Oltrogge of Grinnell; two grandchildren, Staci Kriegel of Searsboro and Scott (Tabitha) Kriegel of Searsboro; four great grandchildren, Abigail Kriegel of Searsboro, Brady Moore of Searsboro, Blaine Kriegel of Searsboro, and Alyssa Kriegel of Searsboro; one sister, Irene Terraza of Santa Fe, New Mexico; and two brothers, Vaughn (Carol) Austin of Arlington Texas, and John (Carolyn) Austin of Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter Oltrogge; two brothers, Wayne Austin and Clyde Austin; and her sister, Inez Kimm.
