Arthur was born February 19, 1922, on the family farm in Jasper County, the son of Willis and Ora Fern Gilfillan Osborn. He was raised in Jasper County and attended country school near his home. Following his education he helped his father on the farm. On June 29, 1946, he was united in marriage with Evelyn Mae Claybrook, at the Oak Grove Church, south of Grinnell. A union of nearly 67 years! The couple farmed in the Rock Creek Lake area for most of their lives. He held a strong work ethic and passion for farming and loved raising hogs, sheep and cattle. When times were lean he worked part-time for Holland Plastics in Gilman, Maytag in Newton and Miracle Recreation in Grinnell. He retired from farming in 1987 and they later moved to Grinnell in 2002. While retired he continued with some farm chores and enjoyed part-time carpentry work. He was a member of the Hickory Grove Church, Farm Bureau and the Victor Grange near Rock Creek Lake. Arthur loved music! He enjoyed listening to Country music and playing the guitar and harmonica. He was a fan of boxing and All Star wrestling. When his farming permitted, he enjoyed traveling throughout the United States. Survivors include his wife, Evelyn; two children, Leon Lee (Christy Peak) Osborn of Buffalo, Wyoming and Ranae Sue (Mike) Hamor of Gilman; five grandchildren, Travis and Cody Osborn, Shoneen Davis and Crystal and Lacey Poole; and four great-grandchildren.
