Ann Patricia
Kirgis
March 19, 1942 – February 9, 2026
Ann Kirgis, 83, passed away peacefully on February 9, 2026, in Grinnell, Iowa. Born on March 19, 1942, in Denver, Colorado, Ann lived a life marked by quiet strength, unwavering dedication, and deep love for her family and faith.
Ann devoted her professional life to the law firm of Gorsuch, Kirgis, Campbell, Walker, and Grover, where she worked as a file clerk. Known for her meticulous attention to detail and steadfast work ethic, she earned the respect and admiration of her colleagues throughout her career. When the firm dissolved in 2005, Ann remained committed to its legacy. She worked diligently until her retirement in 2007 to ensure a smooth transition for clients and to help formally close the practice, an act that reflected her loyalty and sense of responsibility.
Ann's faith was a cornerstone of her life. In Denver, she was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church, where she served as congregation secretary and was a consistent presence at church functions. After relocating to Grinnell, she became a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Even when the pandemic years and health challenges prevented regular attendance, Ann remained spiritually connected through visits with Pastor Koepp for communion and worship.
Family was always at the heart of Ann's world. She never let the demands of work interfere with making memories with those she loved. Whether playing softball in heels at Boy Scouts games with her son or spending quiet evenings crafting with her granddaughter Brianna, Ann embraced every opportunity to create joy and connection. Her patience and kindness were hallmarks of her character; she was always ready to lend a hand or offer support without complaint and never uttered a cross word (with the rare exception of one memorable moment involving Christmas lights).
A passionate sports fan, Ann especially loved cheering on her home-state teams; of which, the Denver Broncos and Colorado Rockies held a special place in her heart. She shared this enthusiasm with others, including teaching her son Bob the rules of football by quizzing him at the dinner table. She also had a passion for college athletics. While she had certain teams she followed, her enthusiasm extended to any team representing a state where she had lived or felt a meaningful bond. This inclusive spirit captured her genuine love of the game.
Ann's legacy is one of quiet grace, enduring faith, and heartfelt devotion to those around her. Her presence will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Ann is survived by her son, Robert (Kim); grandchildren, Brianna (Jarette), Paxton, and Eleanor; great-grandchildren, Jeremiah, Marley, Paislee, and Serenity; sibling, Rick (Sylvia). She was predeceased by her father, Frederic, mother, Kathryn, and brother, Jerry.
The service for Ann Kirgis will be held on March 16, 2026, at 10:30 AM at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Grinnell, IA. The service will be livestreamed through the Immanuel Lutheran Church Facebook Page.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa. Contributions in Ann's memory will benefit the Second Chance Ranch program, helping provide compassionate care and rehabilitation for horses rescued from abuse, neglect, and abandonment. Horses held a special place in Ann's heart, she rode throughout her youth and never missed the chance to watch an equestrian event on television.
