Angie was born on June 14, 1973, at the United States Air Force Academy Hospital in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to Robert E. and Patricia S. Larson while Bob was serving in the Air Force. She joined a sister, Kama Sue Larson, age 3. Following discharge, the family returned to Iowa, residing in Clarion, New Hampton, Waverly, and Mason City. Ultimately, the family settled in Grinnell in 1979.
Angela attended school in the Grinnell-Newburg School District, graduating in 1991. She briefly attended Marshalltown Community College before beginning a career at ASI Sign Systems and just recently completed 30 years of service. She enjoyed her working years at ASI and valued her co-workers as family.
Angie was very active during her school years and had a special passion for sports. She was a football team manager and also participated in basketball, softball, and track. She was honored by being named MVP of the softball team her senior year. She also qualified for the state track meet in the discus event that same year.
Her interest and enthusiasm for sports did not end in high school. She was a volunteer coach for the Tiger track team for over 20 years, specializing in discus and shot put. She was also an assistant volleyball coach for the Grinnell Middle School for several years. Angie continued participating in Grinnell Parks and Rec activities such as softball and volleyball for many years.
She was an avid fan of the Grinnell Tigers, Grinnell Pioneers, Iowa Hawkeyes, Minnesota Twins, and Minnesota Vikings. She enjoyed attending games when possible.
Angie's emphasis as a coach was for her athletes to be positive, compete hard, and always exhibit good sportsmanship. Her philosophy was if you play your best and have fun, you can be proud of yourself no matter the outcome.
Angie's other great passion was her two nieces, Emily and Amanda, who she loved dearly. She spent many years coaching them throughout their many sports activities and enjoyed vacationing with them, as well.
Angie was preceded in death by her grandparents Lawrence and Elma Maxon, and Alva and Janet Larson, and her uncle Larry Maxon. She is survived by her parents, Robert and Patricia Larson, her sister and brother-in-law, Kama and Tom Small, her nieces, Emily and Amanda Small, two aunts, and several cousins. She also leaves behind her beloved dog, Brinckley, and cat, Scully.
Angie will be missed for her friendliness and easy-going manner, as well as her willingness to help those in need. She fought her illness with a fierce determination, always exhibiting the positive attitude that she carried with her for her entire life. Some of her final words were thanking the doctors and nurses who cared for her.
