Aline was born the daughter of Edward and Mary Wehrli Lidtka on December 14, 1916, near Grinnell, Iowa. She was raised in Grinnell and the Chester Township and graduated from Chester High School in 1931 and Grinnell High School with the Class of 1933. She then attended Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa for two years and then attended summer school in Boulder, Colorado. Following her education, she returned to be a teacher in the rural schools of Chester Township. Aline was married to Eldon 'Sammy' Petersen on January 14, 1939, in Unionville, Missouri. To this union were born three children, Karen, Sally and Nancy. The couple farmed in the Chester and Sheridan Townships for much of their lives. Aline worked as a receptionist for Dr. Gimmer in 1961 and later for Dr. Ransom when he took over the practice. She then worked for Dr. Warren Bower in 1967 until 1979. The couple retired from farming in 1977 and moved to Grinnell. They spent their winter months in Brownsville, Texas. Following Sammy's death, she continued to winter in Texas until 1994. She spent time working in the Sonora Grange and particularly enjoyed programs that she put together at various times.' She enjoyed her days at the Sheridan Methodist Church with her WSCS group and never missed the socials or church programs when she lived on the farm in Sheridan. She'cherished her grandchildren as well as her great children.' When the grandchildren were young, they loved to spend time on the farm helping Grandma in the garden.' She enjoyed playing bridge, tending to her gardening, listening to music, and traveling to various destinations with the Heritage Club. Aline is survived by her daughters, Karen (Robert) Groves of Grinnell, Iowa, Sally Bowler of Howey in the Hills, Florida, and Nancy (Mark) Oehler of Reeds Spring, Missouri; eight grandchildren; and twenty-three great grandchildren. Aline passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2006, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell. She was eighty-nine years of age and was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Sammy on April 30, 1988; her brothers Afton Lidtka in 1976, Virgil Lidtka in 1987, and Tracy Lidtka in 2001.
