Alice L. Beck, 83, of Grinnell, died on Monday, December 30, 2013, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell.
A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 4, 2014, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Muriel Johannessen, associate minister of St. John's Lutheran Church in Grinnell, officiating. Music will be provided by Carolyn Bosse. Casket Bearers will be Daryl Beck, D.J. Beck, Leon Beck, Roger Beck, Joel Ebel and John Hines. Interment will be at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.
Friends may call at the funeral home beginning 12 noon on Friday. The family will be present at the funeral home from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Friday.

Alice was born on January 19, 1930, in Montezuma, Iowa to Frank and Annis Bunch Wood. She was raised in Montezuma and Grinnell before moving to Tama in 1944. Alice graduated from Tama High School in 1948 and moved to Grinnell to work as an operator for the telephone company.
On April 8, 1950, she was united in marriage to Raymond L. Beck at St. John's Lutheran Church in Grinnell. The couple made their home in Grinnell and she worked as a secretary at St. John's Lutheran Church and a bookkeeper for the JC Penny store.
Alice was a long-time and active member of St. John's Lutheran Church. She enjoyed gardening and raising flowers, playing cards and quilting. One of her favorite pastimes was making quilts at the church for Lutheran World Relief.
She is survived by one daughter, Sharon (Billy) Howerton of Altenstadt, Germany; two sons, David (Deborah) Beck and Kenneth (Jennifer) Beck, all of Grinnell; three grandchildren, Joel (Hope) Ebel of Littleton, Colorado, Erica (John) Hines of Prudenville, Michigan and D.J. (Missy) Beck of Grinnell, Iowa; two great grandchildren, Naveah and Ronan Beck; and her brother, Jim Wood of Aurora, Colorado.
Alice was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
