Obituary

The son of Remi and Celina DeClercq Schinckel, Albert was born May 31, 1921, in Brooklyn, Iowa. He was raised on a farm near Brooklyn and educated in a rural school near his home. He was a veteran of the United States Army during World War II and served as a Corporal in the Pacific Theatre in New Caledonia. On February 19, 1946, he was married to Frances E. Hall in Brooklyn. The couple farmed in the Brooklyn and Malcom area prior to moving to a farm near Kellogg in 1967. For many years he enjoyed raising Black Angus beef cattle and Brown Swiss milk cows. He was a proud member of the National Farmer's Organization. They moved to Newton in 1979, where the couple became part owners of C & A Small Engine Repair Shop. The couple later retired to Seeland Park in Grinnell in 2000. Albert held a passion for designing and making stained glass artwork. He enjoyed reading books on the west, particularly books authored by Louis L'Amour and he especially enjoyed playing his accordion. Survivors include three daughters, Diana Tully of Warrenton, Virginia, Denise Hartz of Jackson, Tennessee, and Darlene Mesch of Littleton, Colorado; one sister, Germaine Purdum of Malcom; two brothers, Marvin Schinckel of Victor and Raymond Schinckel of Grinnell; five grandchildren; and two great grandchildren. Albert passed away on his wife's birthday, March 11, 2005, at the Mayflower Home Health Care Center. He was 83 years of age. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife, Frances in 2002. Memorials may be directed to the Sheltered Care Unit of the Mayflower Home in Grinnell.
