Bill was born on Wednesday, February 16, 1921, in Burlington, Iowa to William Leo Bloom Sr. and Marie Elizabeth Reed. He was raised in Burlington and graduated from Burlington High School with the Class of 1939. He also attended a few years of college.
On April 19, 1944, he was united in marriage to Gladys G. 'Gertie' Lear in Burlington, Iowa. He served with the United States Army until his discharge in 1946. The couple lived in Chicago, Milwaukee and Denver before moving to Osceola in 1985. He worked as an office manager for General Electric Medical Systems prior to retirement. The couple moved to the Mayflower Community in Grinnell in 2000.
Bill was a member of the United Methodist Church, the Rotary Club, the Osceola Chamber of Commerce and had served on the Osceola City Council, the Osceola Library Board and the Clarke County Development Corporation.
He is survived by two sons, James W. Bloom of El Sobrante, CA. and John A. Bloom of La Mirada, CA and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife.
Memorials in Bill's honor may be directed to the Mayflower Community of Grinnell or to Biola University in LaMirada, California.
A second Memorial Service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 12, 2011, at the United Methodist Church in Osceola, Iowa. The family will host a luncheon in the hall of the church following the memorial service.
